Many vacation and leisure activities (ca. 1909-1920s) are shown, including boating, picnics, other outings in locations such as Yosemite, Alaska, the Columbia River, Napa, Sonoma, Muir Woods, Sausalito, Golden Gate Park, Santa Cruz, and Manilla (P.I.) Later photos show social events related to her career in city planning and urban renewal. Includes some press and event photographs, chiefly group portraits of Porter with San Francisco city officals.

Julia Porter's interest in community and political activities began when she joined the League of Women Voters in the 1930s. She served on the San Francisco Planning Commission from 1943 to 1976, was a co-founder of the San Francisco Housing and Planning Association (which became the San Francisco Planning and Urban Renewal Association), was a member of the Democratic State Central Committee from 1941 to 1960, and worked with other groups including the United Negro College Fund Drive and the San...
